SWITCH May '07: Sho-kun really loves Arashi
Nino's beautiful tear-stained face made me teary-eyed, but Sho-kun's interview...he sure has come a long way from the kid who originally joined Johnny's as a joke. Rough translation:
What do you think is your biggest motivation when it comes to work?
I realized the answer to that during our Asian tour --- I truly thought, "I'm glad I chose this profession." To begin with, it wasn't as if I had no alternatives other than the entertainment business, so yes, there were times in the past when I felt unsure. But vocations such as this, where one can make an impact on other people's lives in one way or another, are really few and far between. I'm really happy that I got to experience the moment that made me realize this with the four of them. I can now say with confidence, "I'll stay in this business all the way." Unlike Ohno-kun, I'm not inherently talented, but it would be a shame to look back on my life before I die and think, "I wasn't suited for this." I'll keep going at it until in the end I can say, "I was meant for this."
How would you explain "Arashi"?
I guess we are a fusion of different personalities. Back when Nino went to Hollywood, we got to experience what it felt like to have only four people in the group, and that really had a profound impact on me, much greater than I expected. The significance of us being five, and our confidence and pride as a group became stronger. That's why right now, I want to put "Arashi" ahead of "Idol".
So you want to be "Arashi" rather than "Idol"?
When it comes down to it, the two are the same, but I want to take "Arashi" beyond "Idol" and make it into its own genre. That is my dream.

Do you know where I can get the full translation?
Or did you translate this?
Anyways, thanks for posting Sho's short interview!
I think your translations are fine.
If you're still not confident,
then this translation can serve as your practice.
Thanks for helping.
No rushes though.
Since it's really long, I understand you need time.
I don't mind waiting.
HIG DVD's great! At leat get it for Nino-cam and their lovely song (composed by Nino) for MatsuJun's birthday =D
Btw, Sho's speech (plus the rest of their speeches) is right near the end of the Suppin concert =)
omg...i just cried..bawled reading that.
"But vocations such as this, where one can make an impact on other people's lives in one way or another, are really few and far between."
I choked reading this because to be able to that is one of my (almost) impossible dream that I had not yet achieve. They are blessed with the power & yet I don't envy them for achieving it. I'm happy to be the one amongst thousands/millions who was touched.
"I'm really happy that I got to experience the moment that made me realize this with the four of them."
...realizing it with the other four... TT_TT
can you please translate the Nino one. Did he talk about the shoot? the crying picture of him is gorgeous.
I've been reading your old entries.. how could I've missed you *virtual hug*
- He kept complaining about how serious the questions were and kept dodging them with jokes
- He read the script for Kiiroi Namida while he was in America for Iwo Jima
- Change he felt in the past eight years: numbers, e.g. number of years in the biz, their ages, popularity, etc. But he feels their insides haven't changed that much
- Stuff he does when he's alone: play games, read manga, play the guitar, etc.
- Music he's listening to a lot lately: RADWIMPS. He listened to them all the time in America
- He feels uncomfortable when he is praised as an actor: "I'm not an actor; I'm an idol." He feels more at home doing concerts, variety shows, etc.
- His picture of the ideal idol is someone who can do it all --- work, sleep, play, love, etc. He thinks Aiba-chan is amazing because he's an idol who gets to fight with tigers and box with kangaroos
(Heh, I'm taking advantage of your good deed to aishoni)
